The one I have is a rather large oak one with brass trimming and has a black marble top mantle built on it in one unit. I want some nice classy(but not too expensive decorations to go on the mantle. So, I need some ideas as I am not certain what the "norm" is for how most people decorate their mantles.

Why not add a couple of nice candle sticks, a finial, ie., pineapple type, a picture or some books. Two books standing up and one lying down.
Do this in odd numbers. If you decide on two candle sticks that would count as one item. A picture would count as one item and the books would count as one item, that would be a three piece grouping.
you can put photos and maybe some nice things that you had during your lifetime you only need a couple things to make it look nice
costco ☺ If I spelled that right. Haha. ♥♥♥♥
