I personally have seen one glowing cherry red. My father loaded ours down with fat pine one wet cold night and the stove was already 100 years old. Later that year my cousin was burning weeds in the yard and burned the house down. The only thing left was that stove. Unharmed. That was in 1976. We still have the stove. I have seen no cracks in it. They are heavy and expensive but worth the investment.
Wow!! Duke, how much timber are you putting in that energy saver? Wood stoves are a great source for heat in the winter. Especially if you don’t mind splitting wood. Great exercise too. getting to your question now. Your answer should be no. However, since it is cracking there is a small problem that is easy to fix. Go to any Home Depot or Lowes or your local hardware store and see if they have a polish for stoves. This polish is usually heat resistant. The cost is minimal ($20.00) and it will restore your stove appearance to almost new. In the future, try to polish it at least once a month during the months that you are using it. Good Luck.
