And which countertops(marble or granite) are better as well?

Marble looks sweet, but I think it’s quite costy.
Granite is ok and I think it’s a bit cheaper.
I’m not a specialist though, just go to some home design store and they should give you their advice free.
When you ask about fireplaces do you mean the ‘surround’ that goes on the face of the fireplace? It can also be used on the hearth. The fireplace itself (inside burning unit) is never made of marble or granite.
As far as countertops you could use either, however granite is a much harder surface and holds up better. Marble is softer and porous plus it retains moisture.
I’m not sure if this helps or not. Personally I would choose granite for both applications. Granite when used on countertops does require sealing on a periodic basis.
