Are wood burning stoves a danger to parakeets???

I would like to install a wood burner stove but not if it will kill Mom’s parakeet.

No danger, unless you burn PINE. don’t burn any kind of pine. also keep the birds at least 5 feet away from the stove! animals arent that smart, they may be comfortable,& warm that evening, but they may cook in their sleep.

Properly installed it will not be a problem.

Only if it flies into the flames. If properly ventilated, it should not doany harm to the parakeet. If not properly ventilated… it could cause humans problems as well.

My brother has one and it gets pretty hot, but if it’s possible to put the parakeet in another room, it will probably be fine. Also, make sure the smoke stack is properly installed so the bird doesn’t die of smoke inhalation – they’re pretty sensitive to changes in air quality…

If there is a backdraft on a windy day there is a risk of the parakeet dying from carbon monoxide poisening at far lower level than we would even be slightly affected by.
Miners used to use canarys to detect natural gas and carbon monoxide for the same reason, if the bird fell off its perch you got out fast!
