I have a grand two story victorian home built around 1890. It has two wrap around porches two balconies and seven fireplaces. Oh and it has a grand foyer and staircase. Just to give you an idea of the task I am tackling. Oh and I live in the south so not alot of snow. Anyway I need some unique and inexpensive ideas on how to decorate it. It must be tasteful as I live in the historic districs. Thanks yall for any help.

Pick a color scheme and wrap your porches with Christmas lights. Hang stockings over all of the fireplaces. Maybe each room could have a different color scheme or style. Maybe for one of the rooms with the fireplace you could decorate it with a white theme, like show. Put white lights in the window, white and silver garlands around, hang snowflake ornaments from the ceiling, put up snowflake stockings, etc. You could have one room be the candy room and hang candy canes everywhere, put up a gingerbread house, decorate a tree with candy and other sweets on it, etc. You could have one room be all red, one room be all green, one room be silver and gold, one room could be based off of Christmas movies and you could frame scenes from movies, get posters from movies, put up ornaments and knickknacks from the movies, etc. Get a bunch of Christmas ribbon and wrap doors up like a present. You could hang candy canes on door handles and from chandeliers You could wrap pictures hanging on your wall in wrapping paper so it’s like you have presents on your wall. Get pretty candles and put them everywhere. You can put Christmas balls next to candles and on top of any surface. You could wrap your staircase with garland. You could have your favorite Christmas songs playing in the entry hall so it sets a nice atmosphere as soon as guests step foot in your house. Check out Martha Stewart’s website and Better Homes and Gardens’ website for good ideas and pretty pictures.
Can I move in?
Sounds like my dream house! I’d love to see a pic of it all decked out with the Christmas decorations.
I love the look of white twinkle lights intertwined with green garland, then draped across whatever (the porch, the balconies’ railings) and at the top of each drape put a red velvet bow. You can usually find artificial garland with built-in lights and then reuse every year.
