What type brackets will be best to mount it – should they be mounted as the rock wall is being built (it is a new home)…of course the least conspicious, but sturdy, the better. Any ideas or suggestions at all will be appreciated!!

Since the rock "wall" on a fireplace is just for show (not really a rock wall, just a bunch of rocks applied like tiles to look like a wall), it will probably only be about an inch thick. So, you wouldn’t be able to support an LCD TV using masonry anchors attached to the rock facade.
In this case, you will probably have a frame behind the wall with studs to attach lag bolts into. Talk with the builder and let him know what you are planning to do. They might be able to install something in the wall that lets you anchor the TV bracket securely.
Also, don’t do the rock work around an already-installed TV. If that TV gets replaced, you are then stuck with finding a new one that is the exact same size (who knows what will be available then). Or, if you decide you don’t want it on the wall any more, you’ll have quite a time getting that hole filled in correctly.
They have special brackets for mounting these. Usually they come with the TV. It might be easier to mount them while the wall is being built, I’m not sure about that but ask your contractor. He should know more about it than anyone.
When we bought our first flat screen, we made sure we asked for the right fixture and hardware for our wall mount. I would suggest you do the same. You certainly don’t want it to come down especially. Make sure your dimensions are correct and leave the space for the TV open; do the stone around it so the TV will be inset. There are brackets that allow for tilting or turning or fixed, whatever is suggested to work best in that space.
Wal-mart sells some strong brackets I found the same ones there they had at circut city for half the price and my tv is a 42 inch lcd flat screen has been mounted for 2 years has not fallen!
