My bestfriend just bought a house in North Carolina. She has a brick fireplace that is slightly lifted off the ground. She’s not sure if she should paint the bricks white, get rid of them, or what… just looking for the best, most creative ideas to pass along to her.
If you have pictures of what to do or that you’ve done that would help as well!

for the base of the fireplace, i would say buy some stone tile <granite, marble, something that will go with the decore> and add those to the base. It should take a little cutting, and some adhesives, but overall very easy and would add a very sophistocated look. Paint the inside of the fireplace with black or white fire paint, depending on the decore. And add a wood box around the fireplace, or more tile, depending on the look desired. If you add a box, then it would act at the new hearth, if the existing one is nice, then just add the tiles to make it look like a marble or granite fireplace. If shes really creative, you could do mosaic as well on the front of the fireplace itself.
You can paint it any color you would like. Also you can have it boxed around with wood by a carpenter. She could also check at a home improvement store for wood coverings or moldings for these. Hope this helps
just cover or box in its easy and cheap and then you can paint or decorate as you please
ah yes ! similar to what that one guy said – you can recover a fireplace and it will look fabulous but you dont have to spend the money on marble or granite – get soapstone. there are dealers available online – you can buy it in tiles -sheets -or cubes. and with soapstone you can carve your own original ideas (if youre so inclined) – thats what we will be doing eventually with our brick fireplace
