I’d like some ideas for my family room. It is a very large and wide room with a brick fireplace hearth at one end. I just recently faux painted all of the brick on the fireplace with wines, reds and browns and then lightly sponged a light beige over the brick for a antique look. The walls are currently a creamy light tan but the rooms needs some color. I’m scared to paint something bright or bold. We have a medium brown ultra suede couch and love seat and our furniture is medium oak. Thanks for any ideas.

You don’t have to go bold to add color.
Go to a local paint store and pick up some swatches of paints, bring them home and look at them in your lighting.
You could always paint the walls in a shade or two off from what you have now (fresh paint just revitalizes any room, even if it’s close to the current color), then you could accessorize with bold colors such as reds or golds in the curtains, flooring, throw pillows, wall decor.
I also had a very large family room and what i did was have a dominant wall .. so i took a rich red.. not bright really pretty and thats where i put our big screan tv .. it looks really nice eccepically when you have rich furniture.. we also took pillows that have the red in them and it looks really nice i can show pictures if you would like
fi you want your room to stand out go for a bold and vibrant color. this also reflects elagence in a very larg open space. if you want calm peacefull look go for warm colors like sky blue. this is a good way to bring light and peace to a big room. but what ever you do. do not go with white. it is a very bland color and will make things look out of place.
Bright unexpected wall colours are trendy right now and they look great. Since your room is mostly in earth tones, why not try it on just one wall or even one small section of a wall. Green would go well with browns. If you don’t like it, you can always paint it over!
paint the walls ( or even one wall) deep red , or gold color
or if afraid, buy a large area rug in the fireplace colors
I would go a lighter shade of the couch color for all the walls, then paint around the fireplace 2 foot wider than the fireplace floor to ceiling to emphasize it. Simple decorations will help with bolder colors.
Just an idea!
