Please showoff your dress?

by Fire Places on May 5, 2010

I have not started dress shopping i am getting married in a 17 months. We are getting married in a barn that was bought my an artist and re-do . It is very Contemporary looking no one believes they are in a barn and it has lots of Contemporary art. On the first floor there is a gas fireplace. So do not really think barn.
May i see your dress and tell me what type of wedding you are having large small, beach country Club, hotel backyard whatever you want show off?

I won’t be getting married for years probably, but heres my dream dress:

It’s not everybodies taste, so of course I’m going to get thumbs down, but that really doesn’t bother me because its MY taste.
I think I’d want a summer wedding. Maybe beach, but I hate sand so that wouldn’t work for me. I would love to get married in a barn like you. I’m a country girl at heart still and always will be!

Thumbs up to everybody for all the great dresses!

Our wedding is 65 people at a vintage resort and spa situated in a state park. Outdoor ceremony and indoor reception in a room that will be filled with candles. The wedding style is contemporary meets vintage, and I’ll be adding a black sash to the dress and wearing black shoes. No veil.

Someone just asked about people’s wedding dress so this part is all typed out (I’ve designed it myself and my mother and I are going to make it, so I don’t have a picture, but I really wish I did!)

Dress:
I just finished designing my dream wedding dress. My mom and I are going to start making it in January, my wedding is next November.
It’s going to be an off-white/cream french lace gown with en empire waist and cap sleeves. It will be very slim fitted through the bust, waist and hips and have a very exaggerated mermaid silhouette that "poufs" out just below the knees (I mean LOTS of volume at the bottom).
There will be a dark/rose pink velvet band at the empire waist, with a formed bow at the back of the dress. There will also be a pink velvet band with a bow at the top of where the train/volume starts, at the back of my knees.
The train will be just past chapel-length (about 3 feet in length), and the "bustle" will sit at the back of my knees. It won’t really be a bustle, it will more be like layers of lace hanging with the velvet band and bow at the top (the back is hard to explain, but I have it drawn out.)
I am so excited to wear my dress! I’m so lucky that my mom used to make and alter wedding gowns at her own shop. She taught me everything I know about design and sewing, so I fully trust that the dress will be perfect. I literally is my DREAM dress because it will be exactly what i have in my head to walk down the aisle in.

Location: http://www.ancasteroldmill.com/
I’m in LOVE with our venue, it’s the perfect combination of high class food and wine with a bit of a rustic look. We’re doing our wedding in the off season so we got a great rate (about $40 off per person). And I always wanted a Christmas theme wedding, so our late November date is perfect.

Our wedding will be big and traditional, it’s "big" to me because I always thought I would only be able to afford a very small wedding, so the 110 guests we’re expecting is a lot to me. It’s Christmas theme, as I mentioned, our colours are gold, silver and dark cranberry.

The ceremony will be on site, because there are no local churches that would allow my parent’s pastor to perform the ceremony in the church. My family is very religious, but the wedding is not in my hometown, the pastor is coming to us!

Bridesmaids:
My bridesmaids will be in different style black chiffon cocktail dresses. Whatever style they want but all in black chiffon with the hems just below the knee so they look uniform. There will also be a removable cranberry colour satin sash added. My mom is making those dresses too (so again, no pictures :( )

Flowers:
They will be carrying dark red poinsettia bouquets, I think. I haven’t decided 100% on the flowers, the bouquets/boutonnieres are the only flowers we’ll be having because I’m not really a flower person. My bouquet will be pink poinsettias.

Favours:
If we have favours, they will be little goumet hot chocolate "for two" things. I saw them online, but we’ll be making them ourselves to save money. Like this: http://giftdistrict.stores.yahoo.net/sncohotchfor.html

Invites:
http://www.advantagebridal.com/sideedimin.html
Except I’m changing the silver ribbon pictured to a dark cranberry red one, probably a velvet ribbon.

Decor:
Simple, Simple, Simple! We’re having long rectangle tables instead of rounds (10 people per table, 5 on each side), so we’re forgoing centerpieces because they will just be sitting in front of two people across from each other. I’m making cranberry red velveteen runners for down each table and then we will just be placing a bunch of votive candles in glass holders down the centre.

Those are the big details I think. I’m very organized, so most of the planning is done already, more than a year away. Sometimes the details and tradition of it all can get daunting, but overall it’s been fun!

This gown was my first choice, but when I tried it on, I didn’t like it.

This is the gown I tried on, and fell in love with:

MY wedding will be done in Champagne, Lavender, and Deep purple(plum) for the colors. My bouquet will be white roses.

Our reception venue, we are still working on, I haven’t quite found a place I liked yet.

Our dinner will be a sit down, 5 course meal, and the cake will be 5 tiers, ivory and lavender with plum accents. We are also having a chocolate groom’s cake in the shape of my fiance’s car(he loves cars!) We have about 150 people on the guest list, but it’s too early to send out the invitations. We have only been engaged for about 2 1/2 months!

This was about the 4th or 5th dress I tried on and fell in love with it!! I get to try it on again on saturday because that is when I am going to go order it. It is by Casablanca and is style 1919.

We are getting married outdoors with the reception in a banquet hall of a dinner theatre. We are inviting just under 200 people.

Good luck with you dress shopping. It is so much fun :)

Katie May 5, 2010 at 12:29 am

The first few pics are of me in my dress.

My wedding is medium sized with about 130 guests.
The ceremony will take place in a church and the reception in a ballroom like venue.

While the whole thing isn’t rich people/black tie formal, it is formal for us, and I think the dress (and my hair, accessories, the decor) reflects that.

It could be considered large. It’s 100 people, it’s in nine months, it’s Cinderella theme, and our color is pool from David’s Bridal. We are having it at a place called Heritage Village, here is a picture of my dress. It’s style number 9NT8017 from David’s Bridal.

We had 85 people and an outside wedding. I got married this past July

Don’t forget to try on things that you don’t know if you like or not. I went in there saying I wasn’t going to do sleeveless and thats what I loved the most.

Good Luck

I am still trying to decide on a dress. I am having a formal wedding at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in DC. Here are some dresses I like though.

My myspace page has pictures of my wedding. Everyone absolutely loved my dress. Our wedding was done outdoors at my parents’ home (which is big enough to be a country club! lol). Everything went off perfectly, and I have absolutely no complaints about the dress. It was a Maggie Sottero dress.

Yay – I like these questions. Love seeing everyone’s tastes! I myself had a medium/small wedding with 80 people. The ceremony was in a rose garden and the reception down the road at a restaurant that we basically fully booked.

Bride, bridesmaid and MOH 2008! May 5, 2010 at 12:29 am

This was my dress(we just got married yesterday);

http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/dresses/1453/

We were married in a gondola on an indoor canal at the Venetian Hotel. It was simple, and a bit public, but with that gown people acted like we were celebrities or something. One man was even telling people that the wedding looked staged, partly because my gown and my husband’s(!) uniform looked so good. The hotel even asked us to sign a model release form!

I love talking about my wedding.. Thanks for this question! I went to a huge store about 2 hours away to find a dress and found nothing. I was about to give up and then I went to a small store near my house and found this. I fell in love with it. Simple, elegant, perfect for me. We are getting married at the church his dad preaches at. So far the guest list is 130, so it will probably end up being about 150-175.
