HELP!! I have too much stuff and no where to put it, so it ends up spreading out all over my house. I don’t have any shelves yet. I live far away from any furniture store, so I would have to order storage items. (shipping large items would be EXPENSIVE!) I like contemporary style. I have a huge brick fireplace, the walls are brown, the couch is red, the carpet is brown… if that helps with anything.
Do you have any storage solutions for me?

For starters you need to eliminate things that you have not used or worn in 6 months or longer.
Modern style decorating is more of an open concept with clean sleek lines.
You can make some inexpensive shelves if you are handy with a saw (of any kind and a screw driver/gun)
You can make the shelves with 2" x 8" pine and a few support brackets done in a silver finish.
Cut your shelving to desired length, sand then paint in a semi or gloss black paint.
Attach your brackets to the wall then your shelving on top of that. Be sure that you find/hit a stud in hanging them or you wont be able to put much weight on them.
Dressers, bureaus or buffets can serve double duty as storage for linens, dishes, games, movies etc.
Look for storage under the bed. Use lifters if necessary. This will give you an additional 3"-4" for storing items. Old dresser drawers make for great under bed storage solutions. Go to your local hardware and purchase 4 small rolling wheels for each drawer. This will allow easy mobility to pull the drawers in and out from under the bed. For a dust cover to protect your items purchase an inexpensive plastic (heavy weight) tablecloth. Cut it down to the appropriate size of each drawer. Attach the covering with strips of velcro. This will keep your items dust free.
Another option is to look for some decorative baskets that fit in with the style of your home. Readily available on the internet at many sites.
Hope this helps.
Install some low cost shelving.
Here’s a link with different models to help you choose.
To start off with and to get organise, I would sort them all out using card-board boxes .
Label each box with ‘things you don’t want’ and then other boxes books, bits and pieces, cassettes, DVDs, magazines, and whatever you wish. Keep them nicely in these boxes till you get what you want and store them in an empty room till you get them into appropriate places.
Try to get some bookcase for your books-these are good as you can move them around and rearrange them so easily too.
Get some brown baskets with covers that look really nice anywhere in the room besides the book case or at the side of the sofas etc. In these you can keep anything. Plus it is easily accessible. You can get them at Ikea or any furniture place where you are at anytime you go out. These are great to store anything.
