I Want To Buy An Electric Fireplace?

I live in an apartment where I do not control my heat. I live in New York State, so it gets pretty cold here. It is permissable to have a fireplace and I already know the pros and cons of having one. My question is: should I go with electric or use burning gels. Which is more realistic, economical and warmer. Can anyone recommend a particular site, store or brand? I have searhed all the sites I could think of and obviously came up with almost no information. I even tried consumer rated sites. HELP! It is getting cold real fast here!

Electric Fireplace?

I live in an apartment, with electric baseboard heat. I bought an electric fireplace, with hopes that it would lower my electric bill a little, and look nice at the same time. It doesn’t seem to heat very well. Should I return it and get something different? Maybe a space heater with a bit more powerful of a fan? I’m just looking for something to supplement the electric baseboard, because it can be VERY expensive to run.

I have an old fireplace in my apartment. It looks as if it is cast-iron, but someone has painted it white (which I hope to return to it’s original state eventually-next project-any ideas on how to do that are welcomed!!!!) and it is bricked in with red brick. The opening is small 14"X20"???? and rounded, like an upside down "U". I just want to do something different than just have red brick to look at…..I have a ton of acrylic paint and thought I could mess around with those….. any ideas?

We are purchasing a property, and have to get insurance for it.

what are some of the things an adjuster would look at?

wiring? fire hazards, leaks?

what exactly and in particular are they going to check and if need make us fix before insuring us.

this is a motorcycle shop/fireplaces/antique shop/apartment.

Will putting a wooden bureau over a heating grate on the floor cause a fire hazard?

I have a studip apartment, and the heat comes up in my place near the fridge, but I’d like to put a small nightstand there for my utensils/tools. It has a slope on the bottom where it curves so it’s not touching the grate.

Renovating an apartment in country/cabin style. I want a cast iron stove or fireplace. Not sure what the best route would be. Electric, gas, coal, or oil. Already has hot water radiators but this apartment will only be used occasionally by me. Don’t really like the idea of gas but I’m easily persuaded with enough info. We’re visiting my father at his apartment for Christmas. My kids are young and won’t be questioning the science of Santa anytime soon. But the visit has got me wondering: How does Santa get presents under the trees of kids who live in apartments, or who live in homes without chimneys? Is there a standard and accepted explanation? What do you tell your kids?

I am Canadian, I have been overseas for a while…I will have an apartment in Toronto from Dec 1 ( with help from my friends back home )…Everything will be new, I have not seen the electric fireplaces……but I like a fireplace…could anyone give me any input please…..if you like one, please tell me what it is and i will search it…..thank you…david

We’re looking for a great fireplace that utilizes gel fuel (for ambiance) and also emits auxiliary heat. Also it should be a nice piece of furniture – mantle style or bookshelves attached. thank you for your help!

ive been wanting one of those electric fireplaces, but today noticed their really big for my apartment. but they had a electric pot belly stove too, much smaller and would serve the same purpose. the electric fireplaces supposively use about as much electric as a coffee maker. can anyone help me out here???
