Is this house worth buying?

Hi everyone Okay, need some honest advice and opinions here!!
My fiance and I are planning on buying a home in the new year. I have had my eye on a cute little victorian house/cottage(it’s small) for over a year. It’s been for sale for 4 years! (I know, bad sign)
Anyway, I booked an appointment to see it with my Mom since I wanted her honest opinion. We went to see it and it’s cuter than I thought. I loved it! My Mom liked it, but thought it was too small. It has a kitchen, living room, 1 bathroom and 2 bedrooms. It is oil heated but has a gas fireplace in the living room (which the current owner uses as his main heat source) but I was told it would be easy to convert the entire system to gas since the gas line is already running through the house. It is over 80 years old which gives it a lot of character and for such an old home it is in pretty good condition (though I would never buy without getting it inspected) It has a new electrical system too. Okay, it has NO BASEMENT…the foundation is basically a concrete slab which is normal for most of the homes on that street. It’s in a small country town (perfect location where I want to live!) but my Mom thinks no basement is a bad idea..she thinks the re-sale will be very bad. I understand her feelings completely. The thing is, this home is very well priced, very affordable and because of the area, taxes are CHEAP and water is less than we thought it would be too. I mean, it needs fixing up like, new paint, carpet and floors. I don’t like the kitchen and would like to spend ,000 to replace it with a new one (cupboards, floors…)
The size is small but it’s just my fiance and I and we are only 21 and 23 so kids are not in the near future, lol. We want to live there for years and fix it up…maybe one day build onto it since the property line extends to the neighbours driveway so we could easily build onto the living room. The backyard is very private and a good size.
I don’t know what to do. It is very small but I feel that re-sale wise, it would appeal to a retired couple or a family for use as a cottage (since it’s in a cottage area) so I do think there would be a market for it eventually.
My plan is to get a whole new kitchen, keep the natural hardwood floors throughout, get new carpet all upstairs, new paint and add details like stonework behind the fireplace and one day down the road, veneer stone siding on the outside of the house.
Do you think such a small home (if I fix it up the way I plan to) would appeal to anyone?

Do you think for a young couple this property is a good starter home?

Re-decorating my living room; and I’m using the fireplace wall as a feature wall and I’m planning on using one of these two wallpapers, and i have no idea what color to paint the remaining 3 walls ?
HELP please&also include which one you prefer

Need opinions on decorating our new house "artsy" or antique?

My husband and I just bought a brick Victorian that is over a hundred years old. It has been slightly butchered, as the former owners painted the brick on the outside white, made the once functional fireplace "decorative" and painted the original woodwork and built-ins white. We are going to fix all of that. But when I look at houses on our street, which is in a historic district, a lot of the people decorate their homes with things that look like or come from the period these homes were built it (wallpaper, antique chests, old photographs). While I want to restore the house itself to what is must have originally looked like (pull up carpet off the hardwoods and all of the other repairs I listed), my preferred style of decorating has always been that I like painting rooms brilliant, beautiful colors. I don’t like a lot of color, our furniture is fairly simple, but it obviously more modern looking. And a lot of our artwork is stained glass or bright oils. My husband and I have very similar taste and we have always gotten compliments on the apartments we live in and how they are decorated. So the question is, do you think in buying an older home you have to decorate with older antiques and that is the correct way to do it, or can our furniture and art be more modern and more like what we favor, including paint colors on the walls, even if we bring back the original hardwoods and fireplace and woodwork?
FIY, there are no covenants from the historical association that says we have to do anything to our home or can’t do anything. This is all a matter of choice on our part.

I have carpeting in my living room and i was wondering if an electric fireplace would sit against the wall?

or would i have to put something underneath?? i dont understand if an electric fireplace is completely against the wall or is there a bit of space between the 2. For example i have a piece of furniture that has its feet against the wall but theres still space because it kinda tilts forward…im guessing its cuz of the carpet??!!

How do you make a basement your home?

I’m moving into a basement and it will be my bedroom and living area. It used to be the 2 car garage of the house – that should give you some sense of size. How will I divide up the two spaces? I also have a beautiful stacked stone fireplace on one side of the room and I can’t decide if I should put the bedroom in the area with the fireplace or give the living room the fireplace. On the other side of the room is double french doors that lead to the outside. Also, I have antique furniture and a white iron bed. I’m trying to figure out a way to divide up this space and I’ve considered decorative screens and open shelving but still have no answers. This basement is contemporary and has new taupe colored carpet. How do I combine the two styles? Thanks for any input.

What colors go well with Antique White walls?

The previous owner of my home painted the entire interior an Antique White (satin, except the kitchen and bathroom which are semi-gloss) including all of the walls, front, rear and side doors, floor trim, door trim, closet trim, etc which makes it all look a bit boring. I had considered painting the trim along the floors/doors/closets white (semi-gloss?) to add some much needed contrast but I have heard that may cause the antique white on the walls to look "dingy" Other features of note in the home are a large red brick fireplace with black cast iron wood stove in the living room, the carpet is kind of a steel grey berber throughout, the kitchen and bathroom both have a wood grain vinyl flooring, and all of the interior doors (bedrooms, closets) are wood also. It’s all a bit overwhelming (in the dull sense) with too much of the antique white on the one hand and wood on the other! I need help! Any suggestions for guy with no color sense? (yes maybe thats a bit redundant!)
In the living room the primary piece of furniture is a blue sectional.

As far as the other rooms go there isn’t much in the way of furniture as I just moved in so I can get things to match later after painting.

The wood interior doors are somewhat dark, I don’t know what kind though.

HELP!! I have too much stuff and no where to put it, so it ends up spreading out all over my house. I don’t have any shelves yet. I live far away from any furniture store, so I would have to order storage items. (shipping large items would be EXPENSIVE!) I like contemporary style. I have a huge brick fireplace, the walls are brown, the couch is red, the carpet is brown… if that helps with anything.

Do you have any storage solutions for me?
