Living Room & Dining Room – Knotty Pine?

My living room is about 22 x 16 and 3 of the 4 walls have knotty pine. Long wall with front door and large picture window and two small walls. One wall also has brick fireplace (no mantel). The shelf at the fire place is stone or slate? It makes my living room so dark and old looking. I dont want to paint it but to remove all that will take a lot. The stain is rather dark and all walls wood is in good shape except the small wall has knicks in it from a rocker or something.

My one wall in the dining room also has this… None of it goes with what theme or style I would like to have… Dining room is currently baskets and americana colors. the only thing I can see that works with that is the lines in a basket. Living room, I like the Victorian look, antique, whites, washed colors.

What is the best way to brighten it up?

Is that a fireplace seen In America's next top model? Where would I find something like that?

On americas next top model you keep seeing them sit next to a fire place that I thought looked modern and really different. I tried searching the web for it but did not find anything close to it. Is it a fireplace? Does anyone know how to go about finding something like that? Thanks for your help.

So obviously the painting I remember is modern.
to describe it there is a fire place in a room which one wall is is gone and shows sunlight and a person who torso seems to blend in with the floor? on the other side of the fireplace there is a hallway with a door open and water is flooding through it.. its weird i know.. but thats all I remember

Looking to fit a replacement log burning fire in our fireplace, I want the true closed faced version with the tight fitting locked glass door in cast iron frame, NOT those bi fold versions, the fire place is 29" high by 36" wide and pretty deep. Know of any suppliers in the US?

What should i do about my electric fireplace that wont go on?

i got a electric fire place that was in my living room and then it worked for a month or so, and ever since then whenever i turn it on the heater will go on for a second and then it will go off and then the heater will stop working. Do i need a dedicated plug or need to call a electrician to fix this?

I got a fire place that needs to be decorated with rocks. The problem is those fake rocks, are in fact fake, and tend to be over priced. The real rocks you find even on sale are very expensive. What I really want to achieve is a natural look, and I want to achieve that with river rocks. I was thinking about going to Azusa canyon and picking some up, but its illegal in all the national parks, and such. So where can I get free rocks? I mean they are rocks. No Not Compton, not those kind of rocks.

i am thinking about installing a small cast iron stove looking fire place, more for function than form. i am wondering if I can hook up the chimney to the existing exhaust vent for my gas furnace?

I have bought a large cast iron fire place, I am wanting to know if its a re-production or original, anyone got a clue how I find out?? Ive tried to look for the same style on the net but theres so many different styles/patterns.
Anyone offer any help, I can email pics if they can shed some light????

Masonry Fireplaces Why is my home filling with smoke when a fire is lit?

I have a double fireplace, they run next to each other in one chimney, but are completely separate. I had a new cap put on and fireplaces cleaned in the spring. We have tried a fire twice, home is filling with smoke. I do not understand the physic’s, why is this happening? I used to think if I opened the flu one knotch in basement, upstairs fire would not cause smoke to come back in. This is not working now. Does one affect the other? I don’t see how it can. The fire place is deep enough to not cause smoke to come into the room. Please Help!!! Thank you.
