A haunting is terrifying my family!!! Please read this and help!!!?

My Auntie moved into a new house about a year ago, and everything was going okay until about 2 weeks after she and her husband and their 4 kids moved in. We were decorating the whole house and moving things about like furniture and putting up wallpaper. It was going really well and I LOVED the house that I’m sitting in now.

It’s an old Victorian Manor with huge bay windows and an elegant spiralling staircase that leads up through the whole house. It has huge fireplaces in all the bedrooms and the downstairs rooms and it is very beautiful. It is very old, and has about 6 bedrooms and various other rooms like a lounge, a library, a posh dining room and an old fashioned kitchen. It really is an amazing house!

Anyway, we were decorating and then we decided to go out for lunch. I decided not to and stayed behind to continue painting. Everyone was gone and the huge house was so quiet. I didn’t think it was haunted at all, but it is old and my Uncle joked about it being haunted. Apparently the person selling the house told my Auntie and Uncle that the reason he was moving was because it was too big and also for "other" reasons that he didn’t explain fully.

I was opening another tin of paint when all of a sudden I heard footsteps walking around in the hall. I thought that someone had come back for something so I went out to see who it was, but no one was there and I could still hear the footsteps as if they were walking past me and towards the stairs and when I shouted hello they stopped for a second and then I heard them head up the stairs and fade away to the top of the house.

It sounded as if someone invisible was walking around the house and then got a fright when I shouted and ran away upstairs. For some reason I wasn’t scared. I almost felt bad for scaring them. And I have had many experiences with the paranormal before so I was kinda used to it.

Anyway, that was the first thing that happened. The second thing was when my Auntie and Uncle first slept in their new bedroom after it was all finished. The kids were away and they were feeling happy and after a bit of wine they were slightly tipsy, and they started having sex, and in the middle of it, my Auntie saw a tall dark shadow hovering a few feet of the ground at the foot of the bed, and it raised both of it’s arms out by its side and when my Auntie screamed it vanished.

Then, when we were all invited to have dinner at the house we were all sitting around the table and there is a big chandelier over the table and as we were eating the chandelier started to shake. We all sat quiet and I turned off the music player and as we sat in silence we could hear what sounded like the king size beds or the grand piano in the upstairs parlour room being picked up and dropped from 5 feet in the air. You could hear huge BANGS and THUDS one after the other and that went on for about 1 minute, and at one point my uncle was about to go up and see what it was but we all stopped him and after it stopped we listened to see if it was all over and then my brother and my father and my grandfather went up to see what it was and when they went up we sat and listened to see if we could hear them and we heard them arguing and we though to ourselves "Oh god, what now!" and a few seconds later they walked in the door and we could still hear the arguing as if it was just in the above level.

We always hear walking and see things at the corner of our eye, and my Gran and Grandfather were sitting in the parlour room one time and they watched a wine bottle hover a few inches above the table and go off the edge of the table and few feet and then drop to the floor. My little cousins are always playing with people who aren’t thier and through a ball into the hallway and we all watch it sit still in the other room and then rise up and bounce back.

The house is very haunted, but there are bad spirits too that like to bite people because people have stayed over and woke up with bite marks that they never felt as they slept and my friend stayed expecting nothing to happen and when he woke up the next morning the bed he was sleeping in was at the other side of the room blocking the door and he had 3 big slashes on his back.

He hasn’t been back since…

My Aunite and Uncle like the kind ghosts that play with the kids and open cupboards with what my Auntie is looking for, but the ones that hurt people and smash things need to go!

Is it possible to get rid of the ghosts that you don’t want and if so how?

p.s… As I’m sitting here now ALONE I can hear lots of doors upstairs slamming open and shut and I’m quite scared actually

My Aunite and Uncle like the kind ghosts that play with the kids and open cupboards with what my Auntie is looking for, but the ones that hurt people and smash things need to go!

Is it possible to get rid of the ghosts that you don’t want and if so how?

I’m trying to think of features of old homes, such as victorian, and here’s what I’ve come up with. If you can tell me more that you know of, that would be great! Thanks

-Wood bench built into a wood stairway, and the seat of the bench opens up for storage.
-Crown molding between wall and ceilings
-Wood detailing on stairway/crown molding/fireplace area
-Built in bookshelves/china cabinets with glass doors
-Wood floors
-Built in furniture such as an armoire, built in draws, built in vanity with built in mirror and built in drawers.

Electric fireplace?

We bought a beautiful house that is perfect in every way, except for a very ugly fake fireplace. My house is traditional, but the mantel is light oak. Well, actually, it is just about perfect after I have spent 4 years and a lot of money. My last project is the fireplace, and my budget can’t take a custom-made job. We are total electric so I don’t have the choice of using gas. The electric fireplace w/mantel that I found at Lowe’s is made of fake, cheap looking material. If I go through my decorator and her carpenter, it would be perfect, but would cost ,000 to ,000. I’ve done a lot of searching on the web, but I’m confused. I would appreciate any suggestions. My furniture is cherry, some dark antique pieces, and I have a black baby grand, so I need a fireplace that is not only functional but fits with my decor. Thanks!
There is no indention into the wall. They just put Italian marble (strange) where the fireplace would be. It’s all flat with the wall. I have a hand-painted screen in front of it, but it is still a useless waste of a long wall. The dimplex is beautiful. Thanks for recommending that. Not sold here, but is available within 200 miles. Such nice people here! Some of the categories have such *angry* people. I was prepared to be insulted.

My husband and I just bought a brick Victorian that is over a hundred years old. It has been slightly butchered, as the former owners painted the brick on the outside white, made the once functional fireplace "decorative" and painted the original woodwork and built-ins white. We are going to fix all of that. But when I look at houses on our street, which is in a historic district, a lot of the people decorate their homes with things that look like or come from the period these homes were built it (wallpaper, antique chests, old photographs). While I want to restore the house itself to what is must have originally looked like (pull up carpet off the hardwoods and all of the other repairs I listed), my preferred style of decorating has always been that I like painting rooms brilliant, beautiful colors. I don’t like a lot of color, our furniture is fairly simple, but it obviously more modern looking. And a lot of our artwork is stained glass or bright oils. My husband and I have very similar taste and we have always gotten compliments on the apartments we live in and how they are decorated. So the question is, do you think in buying an older home you have to decorate with older antiques and that is the correct way to do it, or can our furniture and art be more modern and more like what we favor, including paint colors on the walls, even if we bring back the original hardwoods and fireplace and woodwork?
FIY, there are no covenants from the historical association that says we have to do anything to our home or can’t do anything. This is all a matter of choice on our part.

Paint colors for a very large family room?

I’d like some ideas for my family room. It is a very large and wide room with a brick fireplace hearth at one end. I just recently faux painted all of the brick on the fireplace with wines, reds and browns and then lightly sponged a light beige over the brick for a antique look. The walls are currently a creamy light tan but the rooms needs some color. I’m scared to paint something bright or bold. We have a medium brown ultra suede couch and love seat and our furniture is medium oak. Thanks for any ideas.

How do I change the finish of 60 year old wood?

We recently purchased an older home (built 1941) and there are several built in cabinets and a fireplace made of oak. The furniture came with the home, is antique and is the same color of the cabinets and the fireplace. It’s an orange-ish looking wood and is hard to decorate around. I really do prefer the deeper, darker wood colors (so does my husband). Can I sand and restain the wood darker without worrying about ruining the wood? It’s so old.

The contemporary couch is sort of a yellowy beige, and the pillows are a crewel floral with a deep red background. The living room is super small and dark. I’ve got a matching beige on the wall, but it looks really dark. Should I go with a lighter version? I was thinking a really muted sage or blue/gray for a change, but they seem too light for the value/lightness of the couch-no contrast. I’m stumped here. The floor is oak, and we have a big fireplace faced with slate. Furniture is darker wood and white trim/built-ins. Thank you!
Thank you! We did add recess lighting, and it helps, but during the day, I’d like to keep the lights off. I love the couch, but have a dark red area rug on the floor that isn’t helping, so I may change that out to start. The slate is pretty dark, slate gray with neutral tones throughout, but still dark, and I’ll probably change that to a lighter, more neutral tile (more demo, yikes!). I’m with you on the beige walls, although I don’t mind a light khaki beige, so your suggestions are what I was leaning towards. I was also thinking of wainscoting in white, the type that looks more architectural to at least lighten up the bottom half of the walls. Thanks so much for writing!

I painted the wall above my fireplace in red.All my furniture is white and black.The fireplace is black and grey stone.I need more color in the room but didnt like more red walls. What would you recommend??

I am looking for a contemporary look.

Now, would that be too crazy to paint the crown moulding grey in the room if I leave the walls white???
