Start with a home inspector (but find one who specializes in old houses!! very important) and if he or she finds major problems, perhaps a structural engineer. These houses can be beautiful and well worth the investment, but don’t buy any house with major foundation or other structural problems. Main question is how is the foundation? What is causing the sagging? Then get estimates for repairs and ask the seller to pay for them — in this market, you may get it!
