Wall mounted Plasma TV and the rest of equipment?

by Fire Places on May 5, 2010

Hi,

I am planning to buy a 42" Panasonic plasma ED monitor and wall mount it over the fireplace. The question that I have is where should/would I place/hook up/mount the rest of the equipment, i.e. DVD player/ Cable Box/ VCR, etc… There is no mantel over the fireplace. So the TV will be mounted right above the fireplace, but I am not sure where how would the rest of the equipment be placed/ hooked up?

Normally you would get a bookshelf or cabinet for the equipment. You have to have access to the front and back of this equipment, and the remote control sensors cannot be covered with opaque material. It is also important to provide good ventilation for A/V receivers, DVRs, etc. The real problem with wall mount is how to handle the cables to the TV. Ideally, they should go inside the wall so they are not visible, but that would take professional installation. You could use an enclosed wire channel along the wall to conceal the wires. In any case, the equipment cabinet should be as close to the TV as possible (next to the fireplace?) or at least along the same wall.
