we are having trouble deciding what color to paint our room!! it is in an old victorian house that has the original fireplace hearth in it, so we will not change that. and the tiles around the fireplace are mauve (ew.) the hallway is sage, one bedroom is gray, and another is yellow. so it cant be any of those colors. i might do my bathroom chocolate… so i dont think i would do that in the master either. what should i do?! what matches with mauve?
i will not paint it pink or red. it is pink now and it looks TERRIBLE with the mauve. i think red would look worse. Also, its me and my fiance…so it has to be for a guy and girl.
I dont want to do wall paper because these are 111 year old plaster walls (i live in a historic home). i am afraid the wall paper will ruin the walls if i ever want to take it down.

a light blue
Golden "Toasted" Sand (light color rather than dark, careful not too yellow)
,,,, or …..
White Sandy Beach (very light, light textured simple and subtle faux treatment)
Have you given wallpaper a try; only on one certain wall or 4 to 5 feet up from the floor with a finished or painted wood molding around the room?
Just a footnote: I have also lived in an old Victorian built in 1873!… I did renovation with a friend in many of the rooms and we scraped and put up wallpaper. It was rough, but we did it. I have a good warning for you though…. under the paint and other previously laid wallpaper we found ARSNIC, yup! …back around the turn of the century people would coat their walls and wallpaper to make them "shiny" with a coating of arsnic… VERY TOXIC…. and it turned a dark, deep Kelley Green color. So, if you do any scraping, make sure you wear protective googles and face mask and gloves, even overhalls! Sorry, that I forgot to mention that little surprise before. It came as a surprise to us!
LOTS of work…. and I wouldn’t do it myself again. I would only hire that work out at this point, if ever faced with the task in the future.
Note to KENNY below… you are busted for copying my answer just for points… that’s cheating!
Pink is better for girls…
If you are a girl then paint ‘pink’ or if you are a boy then paint ‘deep red or deep purple’.
Lemoney green would be nice.
