What is the best way to treat a minor burn with only house hold items?

by Fire Places on August 3, 2010

I was adding firewood to the fire and touched a finger to the grate. I checked the first aid kit but I don’t have anything. Is there anything around the house I can use? Also it is kind of looks "juicy" looking now. It almosis that normal?

Yes, shaving cream, put it on the burn for about an hour, I swear it works. DO NOT USE BUTTER OR TOOTHPASTE!!!! You’ll get a darn infection.

Valley R August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

just apply butter to the area.

If it’s looking ‘juicy’ it may blister ..then simply pop the blister … no big deal.

I think toothpaste is the best you can do.

napejo August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

butter or tooth paste.

Go get yourself an aloe plant, cut off a sprig, squeeze it, and rub it on your burn.. its magic stuff.. i use it all the time.

If it is juicy and has a blister, it is not a minor burn. Put ice on it, and go to the store and get some burn cream. If it gets infected, you need to see a doctor. NO BUTTER OR TOOTHPASTE. DANG HILLBILLIES.

Ice, as quickly as possible. Do it now.
Then neosportin, prefereably with pain relief.

I work with a torch and get burned rather often.

put ice on it for a few mins. dont cover it with anything like butter or vasoline because that keep the heat in and it kind of keeps burning. if a blister forms don’t pop it, just let it heal by itself. you can cover it with some gauze.

First run cold water over it for ten minutes or so. Or run cold water off and on for a while.
We use vitamin E or lavender oil on burns.

Don’t use butter or any other kind of grease…it will make the burn worse!!! Put a little mustard on the burn and let it dry…it takes the sting out and reduces swelling so you are less likely to form a blister. I know it sounds crazy, but that’s all we used at the restaurant I used to work at.

water always work’s for me or go to the pharmacy they can probably give you some cream or something

AmY c August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

tgdjm August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

hurts a lot….mustard. now, this will only help the awful pain, not heal. it will dry up when it falls off pain again..apply more…..

Katrina H August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

get a cloth and wet it with cold water and gently rest it the burn. Or you can get a bag of ice and wrap a cloth around it but wetting the cloth will be better. I’m so sorry that somebody got a burn.

hjbergel August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Ice will relieve the pain and take any swelling away. if it blisters or the pain does not go away in a day or two go to a emergency walk in as it may be a severe burn.

LuciaLaLa August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Run it under cool water. Don’t pop the blister, and see a doctor if it seems to be getting infected. For the moment if you don’t have burn cream, there’s not much you can do. Don’t put butter on it; butter will lock in heat and make things worse. Don’t bandage it unless a blister has broken and is oozing. Otherwise, you want it unencumbered and exposed to the air to heal faster.

Aloe Vera is the best. I have a few aloe vera plants, and its good for many things. And for a burn is the best thing you can use, it will keep it from not blistering up.

sbmattie August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Bandage it loosely with gauze, let the air circulate around it. If you have neosporin, apply a thin layer to help keep infection out. If it starts looking green, you may want a doctor to check it as infection has set in.

cindybells2001 August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

raw potato takes the sting out as well as the heat

kerrberr95 August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

get some pure aloe, right from the plant and put some on the burn. If it has blistered, just pop it and clean it out well with soap and water then add the aloe to it. the aloe will help to cool the area, just as it would with sunburn.

medic8613 August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

If there is a blister on it, puss coming from it, or if the skin is any color other than normal or red then you should go to an emergency room now. There is a very VERY high risk of infection in burns and even a minor burn that gets infected could be fatal. If the skin is just red then wrap ice in something and keep it on your finger. This should help the pain. Take some advil or tylenol for the pain as well. If you even think it may get infected see a doctor to get it looked at and you should probably get antibiotics for it as well.

Billy August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

First thing to do is to cool the Burn…use ice wrapped in a face cloth.

After the pain has subsided, use a topical burn ointment or Aloe from fruits. In a day or so, the blisters will be reduced.

Infection to the burned skin is a possibility. So, keep that area clean.

XC_star1629 August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Just try icing it…that will help…if the burn is like an open blister your best bet is to put a bandage on it so it’s not exposed to bacteria…that way it won’t get infected…just make sure to ice it though!

c4sgurl August 3, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Put ice wrapped in a towel or washcloth on it, or keep it in some cold water for awhile. Do not use butter or any of the other crazy things mentioned above on it, and do not pop any blisters that form. Just ice it and maybe put some aloe on it after you’ve iced it for quite some time.
